Signal

Signal is a female-fronted punk band from New York City which has probably been around since 2016 and features members from The Meltaways and Bas Relief.
The band plays a mix of straight forward low-fi punk with some more noisy mid-tempo post punk influences, the lot warped around strong political statements...

One of their first song, Park After Dark, is about the 2014 Brooklyn Bridge protests  following the Staten Island grand jury’s decision to not indict an officer in the death of Eric Garner and a similar decision by a Missouri grand jury in the fatal shooting of Michael Brown. Both were unarmed black men killed by white officers.

The song was released on the 2018 Wharf Cat Records single compilation.
Wharf Cat is a NYC label where you can find Urochromes among other big apple bands.

Signal released its first 7" in 2018 on Ramp Local.
5 songs of fast low-fi angry punk, it makes me think of the great JJ Doll from the Ivy crew...
A good start I would stay!

It was followed in 2019 by the cover of Vice Squad's Latex Love which benefits are donated to the Yellowhammer Fund, an organization which provides funding for anyone seeking care at one of Alabama's three abortion clinics... following anti-abortion decisions taken by several conservative states thanks to Donald "dumbfuck" Trump.

Love Without Moisture, Signal latest release (on Manic Static), is definitly their best release to date. With a better recording than the 7" and well built, fast but sharp, punk songs (and this amazing Virus Carnival, the song of 2020 for sure!), the band gives a lot of dry love, the kind of love that hurts a bit at first... before you beg for more...

Heavy bass lines, deafening guitar riffs, desperate and angry vocals... the comparison with the JJ Doll can only get stronger and it's for the best...
A band to be closely followed!
