Nasti

Nasti is from Seattle, Washington, and nasty they are for sure.
Since the Ex-Static tape in 2015 they haven't stopped screaming their furious, bleak and noisy punk all over the place. It's dirty, it's mean, it's freaky, it's nasti!

The tape followed in 2017 by their first album, Big Achievement, released on Iron Lung Records.
A good album, really, but I don't know I just can't get bored of Ex-Static, their best materials in my opinion.

But it's on stage that Nasti seems to be really at their best. I have never seen them myselft but come on... check this out!

And to make sure everybody is aware of their great live performance they have released two live tapes (still on Iron Lung), which are absolute chaos!

Jarada

Jarada is from Tel Aviv, Israel, and describes itself as Raw, Fast, Angry and Negative. They could not be more true.
In a country where the government is as fucked up as in Israel there are plenty of good reasons to be angry.
And super angry they are since their first record released early 2018 featuring the famous handshake between Yasser Arafat and Yitzhak Rabin during Oslo accords negociations led by Bill Clinton. At a time when politicians still wanted to think that peace was an option.

So yes they are higly political and as they want to be understood by the crowd back home, they sing in Hebrew, a language which gives something quite heavy in the vocals.
But they don't forget the rest of the world; all songs got hebrew/english titles and the lyrics are available in English in the records and on their bandcamp page.

And now they are back with another super angry political charge againt the government of their country. Still raw and heavy but well built, it goes straight to the point and that's all I am asking for. And yes it features another handshake on the cover.

Ma'agal Sina'a was released by DOOMTOWN, NO SPIRIT and CRAPOULET RECORDS.

Jarada was interviewed in the last (ever!) printed issue of Maximum Rock'n Roll (GET ONE COPY NOW!) where they speak about the band, of course, but also about life in Israel and the history of radical Israeli Punk, which is super interesting to be honest.
Here is a similar interview (online) for Souciant Magazine.

You can listen to Jarada and other great happy melodies in Rien à Faire #4.

Acrylics

Acrylics is coming from Santa Rosa, California, and has been around since 2014.
I think I discovered them at that time with their first music video which got a really gloomy? dark? creepy? FREAKY taste!
Freaky they are, describing their sound as Freak Punk you can really feel that something is really wrong somewhere.
A bit like Black Flag playing the soundtrack of Texas Chainsaw Massacre. Kinda.

And they kept working on it, making it always more angry, weirder, more insane...

Go get all their early releases!

And as work pays, they have built a strong reputation around their live performances and even Vice/Noisey started talking about them (here, here and there) and sure they deserve it.

So it brings us to now and the release of their first LP (finally!).
Sinking In is out on Iron Lung Records.
The band has grown up since the days of Fuck Freek, and for the better.
Faster, cleaner (a bit?), Acrylics is more hardcore, more serious and I like it.
Is Acrylics moving from FreakPunk to FreakCore ?

11 songs: from a 59s interlude (brillant idea!) to a 4:05 raging track, the band doesn't care about the rules or standards of the differente sub-genre of punk culture, they keep it real, they keep it angry and more importantly, they keep it weird!
Watch their latest music video!

Many punk hardcore albums are full blast all the way, not letting the pit rest for a second but Acrylics is smarter than that and let you catch your breath...
I mean we are still talking about raging punk but there are breaks, quiet parts and weird interludes... it goes up, it goes down... you almost think they're done and went to bed and BAM they're back, dancing on the table...
And that's the difference between a good and an excellent album, the management of the intensity!

I still hope I will have the chance to catch them live one day!

 A literally nose-breaking experience!

Insecurity

For sure, these guys know their Youth Crew classics on their fingertips! Mindset, The First Step, Get The Most and all the great youth crew bands from the 2000s, there is a lot of them in their sound and... Man! I can't complain!.

Coming from Nantes, France, Insecurity just realease an EP on Refuse Records and it is a total blast! Recorded by Max who used to be the man behind Youth Avoiders, it sounds clear and furious AF!
Nantes is famous for its hardcore scene and I remember a few killer bands like No Solution or Lasting Values among others.

Alex, from Straight And Alert Records (RIP?), who used to release top hardcore bands from France and elsewhere and sing in Harm Done, plays bass in the band.
He also just released a solo project called Schizoid (which I am less fond of to be honest).

Listen to Insecurity and other great relaxing yoga songs in Oktober Fist Vol2.

Tuono

Tuono is a new band from Trento, Italy. I could not find much information about them except that they are not newbies and those guys have played in a lot of metal/crust/d-beat bands from the area. They also share members wih Impulso (great punk-hardcore band that you should definitly check out if you don't know them yet).

But let's come back to the music. Tuono plays a great mix of angry anarcho-punk, fast punk and post-punk. The melodies are great, it is angry but not brutal and very diverse. Unfortunatly I don't understand italian but it looks like it is quite dark and political.

They just released Ho scelto la morte on their bandcamp, it should be out on Agipunk by next year and I can't wait to get the vinyl.
One of the best new italien band in my opinion.

You can download and listen to one great Tuono song and other choral anthems in the Rien à Faire #3 compilation.

Abuso

I have discovered Abuso last year on the colombian punk compilation Silla Electrica. It was one of the bands which got my attention (with Uzi and Reaccion Violentia). There is this colombian rawness mixed with great melodies and angry female/male vocals.
So let's stay that it sparked my attention...

And then, in september 2018, they released their self-titled cassette which has it all... punk rawness, d-beat stomping drums, screaming male vocals, post-punk melodies, hardcore fast parts, great female vocals...
Well I just loved it!

So I was pretty excited to see them at K-Town last June while they were touring Europe. And man I was not disapointed, they sure play fast and tight!

I hope their cassette will be released on vinyl soon and that the trio from Bogota will keep making colombian punk great again...

Necking

Well well well what do we have here...
Four young canadian girls, some great songs with killer bass lines and great vocals, a lot of anger about shitty relationships, gentrification, abuse and many other things...
humm promising..
And if I tell you that on top of thqt it sounds like The Slits were influenced by the all "Swimsuit Murder" era with a bit of post-punk on the side... well sounds damn good! would you say...
And that's exactly what it does, it sounds DAMN good...

Necking released in July of this year their first full length album Cut Their Teeth (on Mint Records) and all I can do is scream really loud in your right ear to go listen to it right fucking now!

Necking also plays live. I didn't find any really good live footage but here is a "radio live" which is pretty good.

Unfortunatly I am afraid the hype may quickly digest this straight forward and honest little gem and turn it into another crappy indie...thing... but well let's not be negative and let's enjoy it while it lasts!

Big Mouth and other beautiful summer hits are available on the allmighty compilation Oktoberfist Vol.2

Electric Chair

I remember being instantly blown away the first time I listened to the Public Apology EP
I was like, damn... this it! this is what punk is! And I just kept listening to it for days and days... My endless quest for the perfect punk band was finally over...
for a few days at least!

Well yes Electric Chair is fucking good...
So good that I included one song in my second yearly compilation (Oktoberfist Vol2).

So when i heard that a new EP was getting released on Iron Lung I was more than turned on as you can imagine. And no deception there, yes of course Performative Justice is a killer and I love it... but i will never feel again this delicious surprise and amazement that you get the first time you realize you got something really special pouring into your innocent little ears... But hey that's life I guess!

I have never seen them live and I don't know if it will ever happen...
but I sure would love to!!
Just have a look at the following videos, those guys are chaos with a great soundtrack!!
Fucking great

Kaleidoscope

What can i say ? Kaleidoscope is from New York City and plays some kind of angry, noisy punk which sounds like a panic attack... Yes a panic attack in a giant crowded subway station, a total nervous breakdown in the face of the future.

In June Kaleidoscope released a LP called After The Futures.. on La Vida Es Un Mus.
A great LP if you ask me.
But you have to see them live... looks nervous as fuck...

They toured Europe in June and I was lucky enough to see them at the K-Town pre-show.
I found a video of this show, the sound is total crap but...
well it looks cool and I was at this show!

Arse

Arse is a great name for a band.
Arse is from Sydney.
Arse is not spreading love and happiness around oh no no no...
Arse is angry...
But Arse is great.
I think i love Arse.

Arse has just released an EP called Safe Word (which is quite funny, if you ask me, when your band is called Arse) which is out on Grupo and Erste Theke Tontraeger Records.

But Arse also worked with another Sydney band called Party Dozen.
Arse and Party Dozen released a split EP together last year.
Yes but they also became Arse Party for a song.
This song is called Power Tripper
And this song is woow wouh pfffff man....
Yes... exactly... something like that...

Arse also plays live.
And surprisingly it looks like
 Arse KICKS ASS

You can listen to Arse and a lot of other great ass kicking songs in Rien à Faire#2

Bad Breeding on Tour

Bad Breeding is, in my opinion, one of the most exciting UK band at the moment. Full of anger and rage, there is also a lot of darkness and pain in what the four guys from Stenevage are spitting to your face. Definitly a band of its time (the dark age of the end of the world we are living now for those who still think it's cool era...), I would describe it as a brutal post-punk-hardcore band...

They just released a new great record on One Little Indian a few months ago and they are playing around the US, the UK and France in the coming weeks (and I won't be able to see them..).
Don't miss them if you are in the area...

You can listen to a new Bad Breeding song and other great punk tunes in Rien à Faire #1.

Loose Nukes

Man this band is the shit!
Killer punk hardcore from Philly by some guys who have been rocking it for some time in bands like The Sickoids, Government Warning, Bad Advice, Blood Pressure or Direct Control!

I was lucky enough to see them live twice last june and it was definitly the best punk hardcore band I have seen live for years...
They totally killed it at K-town!

Live footage of Machine Gun (which shares most of its members with Loose Nukes) and Loose Nukes at OCCCII Amsterdam during their June European Tour.

Fugazi Live Series

A lot has alreay been said about the Fugazi Live Series and the crazy amout of work Dischord Record put on cleaning up those hundreds of hours of live recordings and making them available for a small fee. It would take years to listen to all of them and it is really hard to decide which one to choose...

Anyway a few are available for free on archive.org and their last show, which was in London, is available here (great blog by the way).

You can also find plenty of live footage on Youtube and I am not gonna go into that... but somebody recently made a compilation of some of them, like some kind of Best Of, and it is pretty nice to watch with a nice and hot cuppa tea.

Damn this live video of Waiting Room gives me the goose bumps EVERY FUCKING TIME...
Brillant!
