Flower City

 

As Drunken Sailor Records is re-pressing the beautiful Slimy Member LP (and I may finally be able to get myself a copy), I seize the opportunity to write a few words about the demo of a new band from Austin, Texas.

 

Yes because Flower City sounds a lot like the new band of the Slimy Member's vocalist, Cesar.

One is from Austin, the other one from Dallas... hummm yes could be.

 

The thing is there isn't much information about this new band unfortunately and everybody has been assuming that it's the same singer.

Anyway what about the music itself? Well it actually sounds a lot like the fastest parts of SM to be honest, the guitar sounds similar, there is this 80s British anarcho punk vibe as well... it's just a lot faster!

 

  Think Conflict with a strong Rudimentary Peni / Death Rock atmosphere teleported in modern Texas and you're not too far from Flower City.

 

As there has not been any news about Slimy Member since their (great) 2017 LP (Cesar has been seen behind the mic in the post-punk band Mass Exhibit though) I really hope to hear more from Flower City in the near future. And I'm sure that one of the "big" punk label will be very happy to release whatever they will produce.

 

side note: I have learned recently that SM actually broke up in 2018 and that, sadly, the original member and guitarist Malcolm Williams ended his life in 2019...

 

 

In any case this demo is a really good start for what could be one of the most expected band in 2021...
