MSS FRNCE: V

In my last review of MSS FRNCE I was expecting to listen to V before the end of the year and well I am not disappointed. Yes the four punk rockers from the Ville de L'Amour are back with a new 6-track release, some videos and their "tomfool" sense of humour... but also a lot to say about the fucked up things which happen in France these days...

In the meantime they released a George Moustaki cover (a quite bold, but fun, idea for a punk band) and made a great video out of a scene from Le Grand Soir
Check it out HERE.

But back to V.
Because of the lockdown and the no-concert policy there has been in France almost all year long (as almost everywhere by the way), they had the great idea of making a Release Party video with all the songs played and filmed in the (empty) Parisian concert place Le Point Ephémère. One track on stage, one track in the toilets, one track at the bar etc... Super cool video guys!

With only one song out of five making it over the 1:30 mark, MSS FRNCE keeps playing fast as they do it so well. A bit less fast this time ? maybe not but a couple of mid-tempo tracks give a "slower" vibe to the EP. Anyway if you like their previous releases you won't be disappointed or surprised at all by V, this is still very MSS FRNCE.

Very influenced by the rise of police brutality in the country for the past 2 years, MSS FRNCE has decided to not avoid the subject and gets right to it with Etat D'arrestation (Under Arrest) and SSS which are clear political charge against the police. I am not really convinced by the first one (a not so powerful mid tempo track in my opinion) but the very short SSS is a great and super efficient anti-police hardcore punk song.
Watch the music video they made out of the filmed police brutality in France for the past two years.

Another political track is lel ment, tu prends which is a play on word between the name of the paris police commissioner Lallement (known for his very hardline way of handling security in the capital, especially during demonstrations) and Il ment (he lies) which makes in the end He lies, You suffer or something like that. From not-too-fast to fast but with always a stomping vibe, it's a very efficient track.

But the highlight of the EP is definitely Pas La Peine (Not Worth It) which mixes perfectly the fast punk of the band with a more melodic hardcore approach in a charge against the rich and their signs of wealth.

The band concludes with Ivre Seul (Drunk Alone) which brillantly tackles the subject of isolation (that many of us have unfortunately experienced a lot this year) with the teenage punk humour of the Parisians.

V is another good MSS FRNCE release which keeps the band (and our punkrockers' eardrums) at ease in its comfort zone.
  Keep it up boys!
